First, I realize that the eyes above are a little creepy and unexpected. Read a few paragraphs and you will forget about the eyes.
I have and always will be an artist. As Bono once said, "There's no retirement for an artist, it's your way of living so there's no end to it".
I was born in Biloxi, MS on February 17, 1981, even though I have no recollection of that event. I only go by what my mother and birth certificate states. I was apparently there during the ordeal, but my memory has seemed to block the first year of my life completely out. Rumor has it, that I am not the only one that has suffered from this amnesia. Conspirators unite.
As a child I was very imaginative and not quite all there. I distinctly remember drawing my mother a Mothers Day card that featured a family of fleas eating at a table, atop a dogs head. Childhood...it was strange yet rewarding. I spent most of my childhood drawing in my notebooks, doodling in the corners and paying little attention in classes. My mind was often elsewhere. Drawing fantasy lands, super heroes and silly cartoons featuring aliens and other strange or exotic creatures that my mind would muster up.
As a teenager, I started to pay closer attention to my schooling, although my desire for art was apparent to not only my family, but friends and teachers as well. My skills as an artist increased tremendously throughout my high school years, and even made money on the side with small commissions by classmates and students. My first portrait was in the 10th grade featuring a teacher who had passed away after a struggle with cancer.
After graduation, I pursued a full time job in retail while simultaneously working on my art career. I started doing caricatures for local events during the summers. I did this off and on for several years. I eventually went to college, attending Penn State University. My major was not in the art related field, but rather Psychology. While I maintain a passion for art, there is another more science-minded side that delves into the wonders of the human mind, unexplainable phenomena, and questioning the universe and all that it has to offer. During my time in college, I began to pick up the hobby of photography.
I quickly learned that I loved many things. It was hard for me to settle down and focus on just one career path, when there were so many different passions that I had. So, I naturally did what anyone in my position would do, I started to do all of them. While I enjoyed caricature art immensely, I eventually strayed from doing events after a few years. My last events were at Penn State University, where I was commissioned to draw the VIPs up in the Suites. I was asked back 3 years in a row. While I missed it, I had branched off to start other amazing things. I was part of a group that was featured on A&E, and after being with the group for 4 years, I resigned and started my own graphic design company, in which I created and designed MySpace profiles for bands and companies. This company has come to become the 2nd largest MySpace design company in the world.
I had the blessing/curse of a family that moved often so I have seen and been all over the country. I have lived in many states before finally settling down on Long Island, New York. This is where I started to pick up photography once more and focusing again and my art career. I am now in the process of creating a studio and commissioning works in photography.
